EU sanctions 45 entities: 3 Indian firms named for alleged Russian ties; to face tighter export rules

Three India-based companies were among 45 entities sanctioned by the European Union (EU) on Thursday for their alleged links to the Russian military.The three Indian firms named in the EU statement are Aerotrust Aviation Private Limited, Ascend Aviation India Private Limited and Shree Enterprises, news agency PTI reported. The sanctions form part of the EU’s 19th package of measures aimed at putting economic pressure on Russia over its invasion of Ukraine. The EU said the European Council identified 45 new entities that are “directly supporting” Russia’s military.These entities are supplying restricted items, such as CNC machine tools, microelectronics, UAV and other advanced technologies, despite rules that limit such exports.“These entities will be subject to tighter export restrictions with regard to dual-use goods, as well as items which might generally contribute to the technological enhancement of Russia’s defence sector,” the statement read.17 of the sanctioned entities are located outside Russia. Among them, 12 are in China (including Hong Kong), 3 in India and 2 in Thailand, the EU said.
