During the third ODI match against Australia in Sydney, India cricketer Shreyas Iyer suffered a serious abdominal injury while attempting a catch. The incident led to internal bleeding, requiring ICU care. In a touching display of cricket brotherhood, Suryakumar Yadav‘s mother was seen praying for Iyer’s recovery during Chhath Puja, with the video going viral on social media.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) released an official statement about Iyer’s condition.

“Shreyas Iyer suffered a serious abdominal injury which resulted in internal bleeding. The injury was immediately identified and the bleeding stopped immediately after treatment. His condition is now stable and he is being kept under observation. Repeat scans on Tuesday have shown significant improvement in his injury,” the statement confirmed.What was initially thought to be a minor rib issue turned out to be more serious. Medical scans revealed a spleen injury, prompting doctors to place Iyer in intensive care at a Sydney hospital. The good news is that he has been getting better.Before the injury, Iyer had been showing promising form in the ODI series. While he struggled in the first match, he bounced back strongly in the second ODI. He scored a vital 61 runs and formed a crucial 118-run partnership with Rohit Sharma, helping India recover from a shaky start of 17 for 2 to post a respectable total of 264.
