The retro-modern Yamaha XSR155 has finally arrived in India, and one of its rivals in the 150–160cc performance commuter space is the Hero Xtreme 160R 4V. Both motorcycles take very different design routes but they’re priced close enough to tempt the same buyers. So, how do they stack up?

Starting with the price, the Yamaha XSR155 comes in at Rs 1.49 lakh, ex-showroom, while the Hero Xtreme 160R 4V is more affordable at Rs 1.29 lakh, ex-showroom, for the standard variant. The latter has also received a new top-end variant equipped with cruise control and three riding modes, priced at Rs 1.45 lakh, ex-showroom.

In terms of engine performance, the XSR155 draws its power from a 155cc liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine putting out 18.4 hp and 14.1 Nm, paired with a 6-speed gearbox. The Hero Xtreme 160R 4V, on the other hand, houses a slightly bigger 163.2cc air-oil cooled unit that makes 16.9 hp and 14.6 Nm, paired to a 5-speed gearbox.

On the hardware front, both motorcycles feature USD forks at the front and a monoshock at the rear. The XSR tips the scales at 137kg, making it notably lighter than the Xtreme’s 145kg kerb weight. When it comes to features, both offer dual-channel ABS, but the Hero packs in some tech like Panic Brake Alert, cruise control and a drag race timer. The Yamaha, on the other hand, gets traction control. Both models come with a digital instrument cluster with smartphone connectivity.
