SS Rajamouli unveils Mahesh Babu’s ‘Varanasi’ poster; introduces his character Rudhra |
Director SS Rajamouli finally unveiled the poster of his leading man, Mahesh Babu in a grand scale at the ‘GlobeTrotter’ event. Besides revealing the film’s official title ‘Varanasi’, he also confirmed that his leading man, Mahesh will play the character named Rudhra.
Rudhra takes centre stage
The poster reveals Mahesh wielding a trishul while riding a charging bull. The poster hints at the actor’s larger-than-life, mythic persona. The makers also delighted fans by releasing a title teaser of the film. The clip, showed that the story not only spans time periods, but also geographical borders to reveal a mythical plot.
SS Rajamouli on hosting the grand event
Speaking at the event, director SS Rajamouli said, “I had this habit of keeping a press meet and announcing the story of some of my films. However, for this film, we realised that mere words won’t do justice to the scale and scope of this project. Therefore, we took a decision to make an announcement video. Without telling a word, we wanted to make a video that showed the scale and scope of this film. However, that got delayed and we are releasing it now.“
Priyanka Chopra as Mandakini
Alongside this reveal, Rajamouli’s team has further spotlighted Priyanka Chopra’s role as Mandakini. The film will mark her action-packed return to Indian cinema.Sharing her first-look poster, the director wrote, “Can’t wait for the world to witness your myriad shades of Mandakini.”
Prithviraj as the villain Kumbha
Prithviraj Sukumaran takes on the role of the film’s primary antagonist, Kumbha. He has been described as “sinister, ruthless, [and] powerful.”In the first-look poster of Kumbha, Prithviraj is shown seated in a wheelchair fitted with cybernetic arms.
Grand vision and scale
Varanasi is shaping up to be one of Rajamouli’s most ambitious films yet. Reports suggest that the movie is being made on a massive scale, with a budget allegedly surpassing Rs 1000 crore.The plot teasers have hinted at a sweeping, globe-spanning narrative that potentially blends mythology, adventure, and science fiction into one epic film.
