NEW DELHI: India’s teen prodigy Vaibhav Suryavanshi continues to rewrite record books with every innings he plays. On Friday in Dubai, the 14-year-old opener unleashed one of the most destructive knocks in Youth ODI history, hammering a breathtaking 171 off just 95 balls against the United Arab Emirates in the U-19 Asia Cup opener — an innings powered by 14 towering sixes, the most ever struck in a Youth ODI innings.Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. He stormed to a 30-ball fifty, reached his century in 56 balls, and then accelerated into a different dimension altogether. The young left-hander tore through the UAE attack with effortless power, peppering the Dubai sky with one monstrous hit after another.
By the time he crossed 150 — in only 84 balls — Suryavanshi had already shattered two major Asian records. He first surpassed Afghanistan’s Darwish Rasooli’s mark of 10 sixes in an U-19 Asia Cup innings (set in 2017), and soon after broke Rasooli’s overall tournament record of 22 sixes. Suryavanshi’s tally now stands at 26, and the tournament is only just underway.His 171 is also the second-highest score by an Indian in U-19 ODIs, behind only Ambati Rayudu’s unbeaten 177 against England in 2002.The six-hitting storm didn’t stop at Asian records — Suryavanshi also broke the global Youth ODI record for most sixes in an innings, surpassing Australian Michael Hill’s 12 against Namibia in 2008. The 14-year-old from Samastipur, Bihar, is now the first player in Youth ODI history to cross 50 career sixes, an astonishing feat given his age.
