As the festive season of Diwali approaches, banks across India are set to remain closed for multiple days in October 2025. Known as the festival of lights, Diwali is not just a one-day celebration. In many states, it spans several days, with each day holding its own cultural and regional significance.This year, the festive week brings a string of bank holidays in different states for Diwali and related observances like Naraka Chaturdashi, Laxmi Puja, Govardhan Puja, and Bhai Dooj.

Diwali Bank Holidays: State-wise List

According to the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) pre-released holiday schedule, several states will see bank closures on different days of the Diwali week.October 20, 2025: Banks will remain closed in Tripura, Gujarat, Mizoram, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Chandigarh (UT), Tamil Nadu, Uttarakhand, Sikkim, Assam, Telangana, Arunachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, Nagaland, West Bengal, Delhi (NCT), Goa, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Meghalaya, Himachal Pradesh, and Andhra Pradesh. The holidays will be observed for Diwali, Naraka Chaturdashi, and Kali Puja.October 21, 2025: Banks in Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Sikkim, Manipur, Chhattisgarh, Jammu, and Srinagar will remain closed for Diwali Amavasya (Laxmi Pujan), Deepawali, and Govardhan Pooja.October 23, 2025: Banks across Gujarat, Sikkim, Manipur, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, and Himachal Pradesh shall remain closed on October 23, 2025, for Bhaidooj, Chitragupt Jayanti, Laxmi Puja Bhratridwitiya, and Ningol Chakkouba.

Up to 5 Consecutive Bank Holidays

  • In Sikkim, banks will remain closed for four consecutive days — from Sunday through October 23.
  • Chhattisgarh will have a three-day break, from Sunday to October 21.
  • Maharashtra will observe a two-day holiday on October 21 and 22.
  • Meanwhile, Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh will see back-to-back holidays on October 22 and 23.

Upcoming Bank Holidays in October 2025

October 27, 2025: Banks in West Bengal, Bihar, and Jharkhand will be closed for Chhath Puja (Evening Puja).October 28, 2025: Bihar and Jharkhand will again observe closures for Chhath Puja (Morning Puja).October 31, 2025: Gujarat will see a bank holiday to commemorate Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s birth anniversary.

Even during holidays, customers can continue to use online banking, ATMs, mobile apps, and UPI for fund transfers, bill payments, and other services. However, in-person services such as large cash deposits, cheque clearances, or demand drafts will not be available.It is advisable for account holders to plan their transactions in advance to avoid any disruption during the festive week and make full use of digital banking platforms for convenience.
