Entry ban in Delhi from Nov 1: Which vehicles can enter & which cannot

The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) recently announced a major move to curb pollution in Delhi, approving a ban on the entry of polluting commercial vehicles from November 1, 2025. Only BS-VI, CNG, LNG, and electric goods vehicles will be permitted to enter the city, while older, high-emission vehicles will be restricted, a report from PTI said.As a transitional measure, BS-IV light, medium, and heavy goods vehicles registered in Delhi will still be allowed entry until October 31, 2026. Enforcement agencies have been instructed to conduct strict checks at all border entry points to ensure compliance with the new rules.Meanwhile, an earlier directive to phase out 10-year-old diesel and 15-year-old petrol vehicles in the NCR has been temporarily put on hold following a court order barring coercive action against such owners.
In other developments, the CAQM on Sunday activated Stage 2 of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) in Delhi with immediate effect, as the city continues to struggle with deteriorating air quality. The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) recorded an AQI of 411 near the Akshardham temple on Monday, highlighting the severity of pollution in the capital. As part of the Stage 2 measures, CAQM has directed authorities to take steps to discourage private vehicle use, including increasing parking fees and improving traffic management. The order also called for synchronising traffic signals and deploying sufficient personnel at key intersections to ensure smoother vehicle flow and reduce congestion-related emissions.Stay tuned to TOI Auto for latest updates on the automotive sector and do follow us on our social media handles on Facebook, Instagram and X.
