Jaat box office collection Day 1: Sunny Deol's action movie off to a moderate start with Rs 9.5 crore collection

Bollywood star Sunny Deol returned to the big screens on Thursday, with the release of his latest pan-India action adventure ‘Jaat’. The film which hit theatres amidst much anticipation, sadly failed to rake in the big bucks. According to early estimates from Sacnilk, the film earned an estimated Rs 9.50 crore net on its opening day — a decent figure, though falling short of the thunderous debut many expected to match ‘Gadar 2’.
The film, directed by Gopichand Malineni, comes a year after Deol made headlines for his blockbuster Gadar 2, which opened to a massive Rs 40 crore in 2023 and went on to gross a total lifetime collection of Rs 525 crore during its theatrical run.
While comparisons were inevitable, the relatively muted performance of Jaat has raised eyebrows in trade circles. Advance bookings hinted at the a rather neutral response from the audience. According to the report, the film earned an estimated Rs 2.37 crore by Wednesday night, which was significantly lower than Gadar 2’s pre-release haul of Rs 17.60 crore. Jaat also struggled to cross the Rs 1 crore mark in advance sales in any major territory, with the exception of the NCR.
Despite this, trade analysts remain cautiously optimistic. Action-heavy films like Jaat often rely on strong walk-in audiences, good word of mouth and high spot-bookings which could still swing the tide in its favour.
However, stiff competition looms with Salman Khan’s Sikandar currently dominating screens across the country. While the Bollywood action film is still underperforming, its box office numbers set it up to be one of hte biggest contenders for Jaat this weekend.
As Jaat moves into its opening weekend, all eyes will be on its day-to-day performance to determine whether Sunny Deol’s latest can work its magic on the audience and score another Rs 500 crore for Deol at the box office.
