Karnataka: 10 fall ill after CM Siddaramaiah’s Puttur event; cops cite delay, heat

NEW DELHI: At least ten people reportedly fell ill during an event attended by Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah in Dakshina Kannada on Monday, news agency ANI reported.According to the district police, “Hypoglycemia or dehydration was caused due to the delay in providing food and gifts. Three women were given IV fluids, and seven women have already been discharged after receiving outpatient treatment.The incident occurred during the 13th edition of the ‘Ashoka-Janamana’ Deepavali celebration organised by the Rai Estates Educational and Charitable Trust, led by Puttur MLA Ashok Kumar Rai, at the Kombettu Taluk Stadium. The event, inaugurated by the chief minister, was expected to draw nearly one lakh people. The programme, described as “entirely apolitical”, was also attended by Speaker UT Khader, district minister Dinesh Gundu Rao and other dignitaries. Over 1,000 volunteers managed logistics and parking. In view of the chief minister’s visit, Deputy Commissioner Darshan HV imposed a ‘no-fly’ and ‘no-drone’ zone within 500 metres of the stadium.
