TRIGGER WARNING: This article includes references to sexual abuse.The 2017 Kerala actress abduction and assault case has reached its decisive stage, with the Ernakulam Principal Sessions Court set to pronounce the verdict on December.The trial which is one of the longest and most intensely followed in the Malayalam film industry commenced on January 30, 2020, nearly three years after the crime. The courtroom battle now awaits its final outcome. As reported by Mathrubhumi, the final verdict will be pronounced on December 8.
Dileep ’s alleged conspiracy and legal battles
The prosecution’s case revolves around actor Dileep, who has been named as the eighth accused, allegedly conspiring to abduct and sexually assault a fellow female actor inside a moving car in Kochi on February 17, 2017.The police arrested prime accused Pulsar Suni and others within days, and the investigation eventually pointed toward a larger criminal conspiracy. Dileep was arrested on July 10, 2017 and spent 85 days in judicial custody before being granted bail on October 3, 2017.Over the course of the trial, accusations surfaced that Dileep attempted to access the confidential memory card containing visuals of the assault, leading to a separate inquiry. The state also accused the actor of deliberately trying to delay the trial through repeated petitions and legal manoeuvres.
Dileep continues work ahead of verdict
Even as the legal proceedings progressed, Dileep has remained active in the film industry. The actor is currently awaiting the release of ‘Bha Bha Ba’, scheduled to hit theatres on December 18.
