Mumbai Indians Retained and Released Players: MI IPL 2026 Retention List | Cricket News
Mumbai Indians, the most successful team in the Indian Premier League with five titles along with CSK, announced on Saturday their retained and released players’ list ahead of the IPL 2026 mini-auction, scheduled for December 16 in Abu Dhabi. Mumbai Indians last won the IPL in 2020. In the years since, they have reached the playoffs twice but have not produced consistent results and finished last in the 2022 and 2024 seasons. They finished in Qualifier 2 in IPL 2025.
The franchise started its journey with Sachin Tendulkar as captain and the face of the team in the league’s early years. Under his leadership, MI reached the 2010 final. Rohit Sharma then became the centre of MI around which the team was built. Taking over as captain in 2013, he led Mumbai to titles in 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2020, giving the franchise a long period of stability and dominance. During this time, MI developed players who became long-term assets, including Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, and Krunal Pandya.Bumrah has been central to MI’s identity for a decade, moving from a young fast bowler scouted from domestic cricket to one of MI’s and Team India’s most lethal bowling options. Hardik Pandya’s rise as an all-rounder also shaped MI’s run from 2015 to 2020, before he moved out and later returned in 2024 as captain, taking over from Rohit Sharma.Ahead of the retention and released players’ announcement, MI traded in Sherfane Rutherford and Shardul Thakur through trade from GT and LSG, respectively.
