Mumbai University reschedules exams amid heavy rains: Check revised schedule here
Mumbai reeled under another spell of unrelenting downpours this week, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing a red alert for “very heavy to extremely heavy rain” on Wednesday, August 20. The warning came after the metropolis endured five consecutive days of lashing rains that flooded major thoroughfares, paralysed suburban rail services, forced the diversion of several flights, and compelled emergency evacuation drives in low-lying neighbourhoods.The scale of disruption has not only crippled daily life but has also rippled into the education sector. In a move affecting thousands of students, Mumbai University announced the postponement of examinations scheduled on both August 19 and August 20 across all affiliated colleges, sub-centres, and distance education institutes.
August 19 examinations deferred
On Tuesday, August 19, the Disaster Management Department of the Mumbai Municipal Corporation declared a holiday for schools and colleges, citing unsafe conditions. Responding to the directive, the University postponed all its examinations for the day.Dr. Pooja Raundale, Director of the University’s Examination and Evaluation Board, confirmed the decision through an official circular. The exams originally slated for August 19 will now be held on August 23, 2025, offering students a brief window of relief amid the city’s weather chaos.
August 20 examinations rescheduled to later dates
The situation worsened on Wednesday as the IMD’s red alert coincided with a packed examination schedule. In Circular No. Exam/Sc./FH & SH/34B-3/of 2025, the University announced a comprehensive rescheduling of its Summer 2025 examinations. Among the key changes:
- F.Y. Bachelor of Pharmacy (CBCS) (Sem I) – shifted from August 20 to August 26
- Master of Pharmacy (CBCS) (Sem I) – shifted from August 20 to August 26
- B.P.Ed. (Sem II) (CBSGS) – shifted from August 20 to September 9
- M.P.Ed. (Sem II & IV) (CBSGS) – shifted from August 20 to September 9
- M.A. Communication & Journalism, Public Relations, Television Studies, Electronics Media, Film Studies (Sem III, Choice Based) – shifted from August 20 to September 17
