Apart from the passport’s colour, you may notice another marking: ECR (Emigration Check Required) or Non-ECR.
ECR allows people with lower education qualifications who are traveling for work to certain countries. It protects them from exploitation. They must get clearance from the Protector of Emigrants before leaving.
Non-ECR means you are exempt from this requirement. Most graduates, professionals, and frequent travelers fall into this category.
Emergency Certificate (EC): So EC is a one-way document. It is issued by Indian embassies abroad and given to citizens who lost their passport or whose passport expired.
So, if you are planning a vacation or job abroad, the passport you carry tells a story about your journey.
