Patrick Dempsey woke to the tragic news on Friday. “I just woke up this morning, and I was very sad to read the news,” Patrick Dempsey said on The Chris Evans Breakfast Show. “It’s hard to put into words. I feel really so sad for his children. I was corresponding with him, we were texting. So I spoke to him about a week ago.” Friends visited Eric Dane recently, finding him bedridden and struggling to speak or swallow. “Some friends of ours went in to see him, and he was really starting to lose his ability to speak; he was bedridden, and it was very hard for him to swallow. The quality of his life was deteriorating so rapidly,” Patrick Dempsey shared, painting a raw picture of Eric Dane’s brave final moments.Eric Dane had publicly discussed his ALS diagnosis since 2025, vowing to work through it. He finished filming ‘Euphoria Season 3’ before his passing on February 19, marking the 20th anniversary of his ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ debut.

Patrick Dempsey fondly recalled their instant bond on ‘Grey’s Anatomy,’ where he played Dr. Derek Shepherd opposite Eric Dane’s Dr. Mark Sloan. “He had a great sense of humor. He was easy to work with, we got along instantly. First scene was him, you know, in all his glory, coming out of the bathroom with the towel on looking amazing, making you feel completely out of shape and insignificant,” Patrick Dempsey said.“He was the funniest man and such a joy to work with,” Patrick Dempsey added, emphasizing that no rivalry existed, only mutual respect. “There was never any rivalry between us; just a wonderful mutual respect.
