Veteran Bollywood actor and comedian Govardhan Asrani, fondly known as Asrani, passed away on Monday at the age of 84 following a prolonged illness. His manager, Babubhai Thiba, confirmed the news, saying, “Asrani passed away today at 3 PM at Arogya Nidhi Hospital, Juhu. He is survived by his wife, sister, and nephew.”Thiba added that Asrani had always wished to live and leave life simply and quietly. Respecting his wishes, the family kept his passing private, and the funeral was a small, intimate ceremony attended only by close family at the Santacruz crematorium in Mumbai.Bollywood superstar Salman Khan expressed his grief on Twitter, sharing a picture of the late actor and writing, “Saddened to hear of Asrani Ji’s demise. A true legend of laughter. #RIP.”

Hema Malini, mourning the loss of her Sholay co-star, shared a throwback picture with Asrani on her Twitter account. The image captured the duo smiling together; Asrani had played the jailer in Sholay, while Hema portrayed Basanti.In her heartfelt tribute, she wrote, “We have lost one more gem of an actor. Asrani ji, who has regaled audiences with his superb comedy, is no more. He has done many memorable roles in movies with me, but his role as jailor in Sholay was simply mind-blowing!”
She added, “The film industry, already in shock with the passing of Pankaj Dheer, now has to contend with one more severe loss. Heartfelt condolences to his family who have to bear this heavy loss (folded hands emoticon).”
