Shahid Kapoor’s wife Mira Rajput faces backlash for calling out Diwali firecrackers; netizens tell her to ‘stop using AC, expensive cars’ | Hindi Movie News
As Delhi’s air quality index (AQI) soared into the “severe” zone post-Diwali, crossing 400, and Mumbai recorded “very poor” air levels in several areas, Mira Rajput Kapoor took to Instagram to speak out against the continued bursting of firecrackers. She urged people to stop normalising the practice in the name of “tradition” or “fun for kids.”

On Tuesday, Mira shared a heartfelt note on Instagram Stories, expressing disappointment over the environmental impact of fireworks.“Why are we still bursting crackers? It’s not okay even if it’s ‘just for the kids to see once’ or ‘we’re just doing it once for them to have the experience.’ Neither is it okay for your pataka aesthetic to hold a phuljhadi for the gram. Let’s please stop normalising this,” she wrote.
Social media backlash
Mira’s post quickly drew criticism from a section of social media users, who accused her of hypocrisy, pointing out her own lifestyle choices. One user wrote, “Madam Mira plz remove ur centralized AC, fridge and stop buyin expensive cars too cause they all contribute to pollution…Just showing off by telling others.” Another commented, “Her views r commendable regarding concern over nature…..I would appreciate, if she would also say no to Goat sacrifice during Eid….that’s also ruining our environment n eco-system.” Some users questioned her personal accountability, “Stop using air condition at home and save environment. Rather than lecturing others, you should start it from your own home and set example.” Others even referenced her wedding in Delhi, “I still remember… I was in Gurugram when she and Shahid Kapoor were getting married and I could hear the sound of crackers on their wedding day!! Like seriously madam???”
Beyond social media, a focus on wellness
Mira Rajput Kapoor is the founder of the wellness retreat Dhun Wellness in Mumbai and recently co-founded skincare brand Akind Beauty in collaboration with Tira Beauty. She married Shahid Kapoor in 2015 in an intimate ceremony. The couple have two children: daughter Misha (born 2016) and son Zain (born 2018).
