India’s struggle with the toss in ODIs shows no signs of easing. In the third ODI too, Australia won the toss and opted to bat first, extending India’s streak to 18 consecutive toss losses. The last time India had won a toss in this format was in the semifinals of the CWC 2023 against New Zealand at Wankhede Stadium. While the streak might suggest a disadvantage, Shubman Gill had indicated that the team was comfortable bowling first, meaning India are effectively getting what they wanted. India have made two changes to the playing XI. Kuldeep Yadav comes in, while Prasidh Krishna replaces Arshdeep Singh. Nitish Kumar Reddy, who sustained a left quadriceps injury during the second ODI in Adelaide, was unavailable for selection. The BCCI medical team is monitoring him closely.India (Playing XI): Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill(c), Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Axar Patel, KL Rahul(w), Washington Sundar, Harshit Rana, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh KrishnaAustralia (Playing XI): Mitchell Marsh(c), Travis Head, Matthew Short, Matt Renshaw, Alex Carey(w), Cooper Connolly, Mitchell Owen, Nathan Ellis, Mitchell Starc, Adam Zampa, Josh Hazlewood All eyes will be on Virat Kohli, who was dismissed for two consecutive ducks in the first two ODIs for the very first time in his career. Both Rohit Sharma and Kohli will be looking to end the Australia tour on a high — a moment that could well mark their last games in Australia.India’s record in ODIs at Sydney Cricket Ground has been poor. Out of 18 matches, India have won just 2 — one in 2008 and another in 2016 — and have lost 16 matches. The team will be eager to change that record and script a memorable finish for Rohit and Kohli on Australian soil.
