India’s vice-captain Shreyas Iyer produced a breathtaking moment in the field during the third and final ODI against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Saturday. Running back from backward point, Iyer timed his jump perfectly, dived full stretch, and held on to the ball even as it slipped slightly. Unfortunately, he landed awkwardly on his left side, injuring his left hip and had to leave the field for treatment. The catch dismissed Australia’s Matthew Carey for 24 off Harshit Rana’s bowling, but the effort came at a personal cost to the Indian star.

In the previous ODI, he played a crucial knock of 61, sharing a 118-run partnership with Rohit Sharma (73), showcasing his value both with the bat and in the field.
The third ODI, a dead rubber after Australia claimed an unassailable 2-0 lead with a tight win in Adelaide, saw India’s top order struggle once again. Shubman Gill has yet to find his rhythm, Virat Kohli remains scoreless, while Rohit Sharma has been the lone bright spot.
