The West Bengal School Service Commission (WBSSC) has released the preliminary interview list for the State Level Selection Test (SLST) 2025, moving the recruitment process for thousands of teaching positions into its next phase. A total of 20,500 candidates have been shortlisted for interviews and document verification for Higher Secondary (Classes XI–XII) assistant teacher posts. The verification round will begin on 18 November 2025, as part of one of the largest teacher-recruitment drives underway in the state. The recruitment aims to fill 35,726 assistant teacher posts across Secondary and Higher Secondary schools.
WB SLST shortlisted candidates for higher secondary recruitment
According to the official release, 20,500 candidates have been shortlisted based on the written examination conducted earlier this year. These candidates have been selected for the interview and verification round specifically for Higher Secondary teaching positions across various subjects.The interview list can be downloaded by clicking on the link here.
WB SLST vacancies and call ratio
The interview/verification list has been published against 12,445 vacancies in Higher Secondary schools.The call ratio stands at 1.6 candidates per vacancy — meaning approximately 160 candidates have been shortlisted for every 100 available posts.Overall, the SLST 2025 recruitment drive covers:
- 23,212 vacancies for Secondary (Classes IX–X)
- 12,514 vacancies for Higher Secondary (Classes XI–XII)
Large-scale written exam participation
The SLST 2025 written test witnessed significant participation, with 2.29 lakh (229,606) candidates appearing for the examination. The written exam was conducted across 478 exam centres in West Bengal and covered 35 subjects, as notified by the commission.
Selection criteria and mark distribution
As per the commission’s guidelines, the selection of candidates is based on a multi-stage evaluation process:
- Written Examination: 60 marks
- Educational Qualification: 10 marks
- Teaching Experience: 10 marks
- Interview / Lecture Demonstration / Oral Test: Marks allotted as per WBSSC rules
This combined scoring system will be used to prepare the final merit list once the interview and verification stages are completed.
Document verification and interview from November 18
The WBSSC has scheduled the interview and document verification round to begin on 18 November 2025.Shortlisted candidates must download their Intimation Letter from the official WBSSC website and appear on the assigned date with all original documents, including:
- Academic certificates
- Experience certificates (if applicable)
- Identity proof
- Category certificates (if applicable)
The commission has stated that candidates who fail to appear for verification on the scheduled date will be marked absent and disqualified from the recruitment process.
Recruitment completion targeted for December 2025
The WBSSC aims to complete the preparation of the final merit panel and issue appointments by December 2025. The commission plans to deploy the selected teachers across state-aided and sponsored schools before the upcoming academic session.
